Resident Alert

October 28th 2011

Sometime between 11:30p.m. Tuesday October 11th and 6:00am Wednesday October 12th, four (4) vehicles were stolen from residents in the city. In each case the vehicles were left unlocked and the keys were left somewhere in the vehicle. Nothing has been reported stolen from other vehicles in the area at this time.

It appears that the thieves are targeting cars that are left unlocked. Then they are specifically looking for keys in the vehicle in order to steal the cars.

To help combat the thefts, we are encouraging people to lock their vehicles, remove any items of value from the car and do not leave any keys in the car. Also turn any exterior house lights on in order to reduce the areas to hide and increase visibility on the streets.

If the residents notice someone lurking around vehicles or someone walking in the neighborhood at unusual hours of the night or notice something that just seems out of place or odd, then call the police at 9-1-1 or 859-292-3622 immediately to investigate.

Update: All four stolen vehicles were recovered shortly after the thefts. Please continue to lock your cars and keep valubles out of sight.
